Lithuanian carriers are going to take part in the Beijing-Berlin-Brussels Caravan, which will take the start during the 3rd IRU Conference. We also welcome all the participants in the Caravan. The People's Republic of China is the largest producer in South-East Asia, and it exports its products to various countries across the world. The New Silk Road opens up new opportunites for road transport, including new routes, new cargoes, and new customers.
Lithuania's road transport operators have considerable experience of working in various countries, including Asian countries, and therefore we are prepared to compete with sea, rail, and air transport. I hope that Lithuanian carriers on the New Silk Road, with their reliable and high-quality performance, will win recognition and confidence of both consignors and consignees. I hope that we shall find our place in this important market.
Lithuanian National RoadCarriers Association (LINAVA)
Lithuanian National Road Carriers Association (LINAVA) was set up on 4 October 1991.At the present time, LINAVA unites about1200 freight carriers and 65 passenger transport companies. The Association members have at their disposal 14000 lorries and some 3000 buses.
Lithuania owes the rapid development of its roadtransport to its network of high-standard highways, its ice-free sea port of Klaipeda that is connected by regular ferry lines with several European countries. It is important that the territory of Lithuania is crossed by two priority transport corridors of international importance in North-South and West-East directions.
The activities of LINAVA are instrumental in the development of road transport and improvement of the quality of services and reliability of road transport operators. The Association also conducts a great amount of work to achieve improvements in the legislation regulating road transport, and acts as the guarantor with to the customs authorities of the Lithuanian Republic, under as required by the TIR Convention. The carriers receive information about the conditions of freight and passenger carriage not only in Lithuania, but in other countries, too. The Association acts as the mediator in VAT reimbursement to the carriers for fuel purchased in various countries in Europe. The association's training centre arranges training and refresher courses for road transport employees. The ZAO LINAVOS SERVISAS company offers services in logistics and maintenance.
